Research as clickstream data

PLOS One has published a paper examining what data researchers look at as they click through the websites of popular journals, libraries and collections. The result is this cool graph, showing different connections between various fields.

It gives researchers different viewpoints of data: rather than relying solely on article citations, it looks at the citations, and uses the clickstream data to figure out which citations interest the researcher most.
