Best music of 2011

Here is a list of my favourite music of 2011. Some have a tweet-length comment with them. I have probably missed some things.

Egyptrixx - Bible Eyes (Night Slugs) Weird and twisted sounds.
The Black Dog - Liber Dogma (Soma) Solid techno.
Machinedrum - Room(s) (Planet mu) This is hard to listen straight through, unless you’re feeling exceptionally jittery, but there are certainly some great tracks on here.
Sepalcure - Sepalcure (Hot Flush) Proof that dubstep in 2011 didn’t have to be crazy exercises in studio tricks and filters.
James Blake - James Blake (Atlas) This surprised everybody. Not what we expected, but still great. Again, proof that dubstep in 2011 didn’t have to be crazy exercises in studio tricks and filters.
Darkstar - North (Hyperdub) Listened to as a complete album, this is very enjoyable. It fits together.
Azari & III - Azari & III (Turbo) A lot of “old” sounds from the 1990s are brought together for some serious dance music.
Martyn - Ghosts (Brainfeeder)
Extrawelt - In Aufruhr (Cocoon)

Plastikman - Arkives (M_nus) Massive and essential.
Radio Slave - Works: The Remixes 2006-2010 (Rekids) Anybody who listens to Swoon knows I play Radio Slave a lot. Here’s some of his best work, spread over three cds.
Twenty Year of Soma (Soma) They have a lot to celebrate.
15 Years of Drumcode (Drumcode) Techno, techno and more techno. Not looking back, either.
Radiohead - TKOL rmx 1234567 (tbd) Two cds of excellent remixes. I can’t recommend this enough.

Mix cds:

Robag Wruhme - Wuppdeckmischmampflow (Kompakt) Many of my favourite artists and tracks were rolled, edited and mixed into a smooth mix.
Marcel Dettmann - Conducted (Music Man) A good dose melody made this listenable at home.
Four Tet: FabricLive 59 (fabric) All over the modern music map, just fun.

Eps and singles:

Burial - Street Halo (Hyperdub)
Cio d’Or - Magnetfluss (Prologue)
Backpack Poets - Objective (Electric Deluxe) Mystery ep of solid techno and minimal.
ZZT - Vulkan Alarm (Turbo)
Scuba - Adrenaline (Hot Flush) Progressive house has really stunk in the past few years. This ep harks back to the glory days.

Artists and groups who really hit it out of the park in 2011:
The Black Dog: One album, three eps, and a remix ep. All were great.
Scuba: Everybody, including me, loved the Adrenaline ep. Then there’s the K7 mix disc and various remixes.
Caribou: Mostly remixes this year, seek out the ones for Radiohead and Junior Boys.
Shifted: Mostly remixes this year, highlights were for The Black Dog and Cio d’Or.
Phil Kieran: I Can’t Stop and Free Yourself were great, and Series 001 sums them all up.
